Leg Stretches & Splits Around the Studio with Katie Yip
All movements within the Pilates system are governed by shared principles and patterns. The exercises lie on a continuum, beginning at a foundational level to gradually progressing with complexity towards the more advanced end of the spectrum. How we categorize exercises and assess our clients’ ability determines where on that continuum we begin.
The very first “split”, or single leg movement pattern demonstrated in the Basic Mat is the Single Leg Circle. How we choose to refine this exercise, through assessment and intentional exercise selection, determines how well we can ultimately express its more sophisticated counterparts. Every higher-level single-leg exercise will either be enabled or constrained by the foundational skills established in the Single Leg Circle.
In this workshop, we will explore the most foundational single leg movements across the full studio, from the most foundational to the most intricate. You will revisit traditional exercises from a new perspective and learn new exercises that will challenge you and your client’s practice.
Learn how to teach each exercise with clarity, apply hands-on cueing techniques, and incorporate appropriate regressions and progressions. In this intimate 16-person workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to practice, teach, and observe the exercises on a diverse student body.
